I recently went down to Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, CA for a few hours. It was a lovely little day trip getaway.
Hakone Gardens is a Japanese garden. In fact it “is the oldest Japanese and Asian estate, retreat and gardens in the Western Hemisphere”. I really love Japanese Gardens and enjoy exploring the differences between them. I’ve been to Japanese Gardens here in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, in San Diego’s Balboa Park, in Los Angeles and in Buenos Aires. And now in Saratoga.
My favorite part about Hakone Gardens is that it has a bamboo garden. I really loved the serenity of this section and the beauty of it. I enjoyed seeing that there are different types of bamboo, which I hadn’t really thought about much before. My favorite was the tortoise shell bamboo, which has a lovely curved appearance.
Hakone Gardens has several different structures (a cafe, a tea house, some display rooms and covered outdoor areas). They’re all beautiful in design and minimalist decor.
