Summer Gathering Plans with Walmart To Go

I recently joined the Bay Area Influencer program with Walmart To Go, which gives me a chance to check out their service. We don’t have a Walmart in the city limits and it’s been years and years since I’ve even been in one but I do love getting items delivered directly to my home so I thought it was a good chance to check it out.

Easy Online Shopping

The process of ordering through Walmart To Go is really simple. You sign up for free and just shop. The items in the store are organized into categories (like Health & Beauty) and then aisles (like deodorant) and of course you can also just use the search function to find specific items. Add them to your cart and then you can schedule a time for your free delivery. Checkout. That’s it.

The Delivery

There are two hour and four hour window options for free delivery. Free delivery general seems to be available within a couple of days of placing the order, at least for my area. They also tag times when the truck will already be in your area so you can do your part to be green by getting delivery at the same time if you want to. I received a phone call a few minutes before my delivery letting me know it was about five minutes out and then the delivery came and everything went easily.

What I Got

shower caddy

I wanted to use my Walmart To Go experience to get items here that are really expensive when I buy them locally. So the first thing I got was razor cartridge refills, which are about $25 at the store on the corner and less than half that at Walmart To Go. I also wanted to get items that are bulky and hard to carry home or find in my local area so I used this opportunity to get the shower caddy organizer that I’ve been wanting for a really long time as well as some new big bath sheets.

Summer Gathering Planning

Now that I know how it all works, I’m thinking about how this service could also be used when I need to get a lot of items all at once, which is too hard to carry home in one load from my own local stores. For example, if I were planning a summer party I’d probably use this service to get:

  • All of the makings for chili because those cans of beans are heavy to carry home from the local grocery. Chili is the dish I’m most known for and it works in the summer here since we still have cool days.
  • Sodas and juices. I’m part of a wine delivery club so I have that at the house already but I’d need some drinks for the non-drinkers.
  • Cosmetics, razors and other beauty supplies for myself to get ready for the party. I had a good experience getting the razor cartridges from Walmart To Go and it seems like this is an area I could save a lot of money on by shopping here instead of locally.

The value of shopping locally is in purchasing handcrafted items from local shop owners but these are the kinds of items that I get from chain brands anyway so there’s no reason to purchase them locally instead. Better to save money on these things by using the Walmart To Go delivery service and then have more money to spend on the things I do buy locally from artisans.

As a participant in the Walmart to Go First program, I’ve received a personal invite and payment for my time and efforts in creating this post.
