I do a lot of writing about taxes but I’m hardly the only person writing on this (and other financial topics). Two of my tax posts have been included as part of blog carnivals that deal with taxes and other things related to money. They both have a lot of informative stuff that is worth reviewing if money is something that concerns you. And really, who isn’t at least a little bit concerned about money?!

My Freelancer’s Guide to Important Tax Deductions was included in the Small and Home Business blog carnival. It was in the “money and finance” section along with posts on healthcare, Roth IRAs, day jobs, tax refunds, tax software, scams, cash advances, MMA rates, high yield savings accounts, business credit cards, debt consolidation, debt relief grants and even green printing!

My tips for Organizing Tax Information Throughout the Year was part of the Personal Finance blog carnival. It was in the taxes section along with posts on itemized deductions, TurboTax discounts and asset allocation. The other categories at this blog carnival were budgeting, investing, retirement, debt managementrisk management, estate planning, financial planning, home financing, the cost of education and  the economy.

boost immune system healthy 300x194 Boosting Your Immune System

You know what I think is probably the smartest thing that I have learned as I’ve gotten older? I’ve learned how to take care of myself. As time goes on, I get better and better at making sure that I’m taking care of my physical and emotional needs. This allows me to live a healthier life on so many levels and is one of the things that I appreciate most about getting older.

One of the things I’ve learned the hard way is that you have to make the time to take care of your physical needs if you want to stay healthy. Every single time that I start to overwork, don’t sleep enough, fail to eat right and stop getting enough exercise, I rapidly find myself facing a cold or flu that knocks me out and puts me in bed. If you don’t take care of your body, your body will stop working so that you’ll be forced to take care of it.

What I’ve discovered is that there are a lot of really simple things that should be done for boosting your immune system and staying healthy. It’s common sense stuff really. You need to eat healthy and drink a lot of water, avoid sugars and alcohol and make sure that you’re resting when you need to rest. Doing that for yourself is simply the smart thing to do!

blog carnival1 SmartChick at the Blog Carnival: Taxes

It’s tax season and for freelancers that can mean that it’s not a very fun time at all. Of course, some freelancers are terrific about keeping organized records of their sporadic income and their ever-changing work expenses. They submit their self-employment quarterly taxes regularly and they don’t struggle to figure out all that they’re supposed to figure out before April 15th each year.

And then there are the rest of us.

Doing freelance taxes isn’t difficult, exactly, but it’s not easy either. (For some helpful online tax filing solutions check out NextAdvisor.com.) It requires a strong sense of organization. It requires us to be smart about understanding our businesses. And it requires extensive knowledge of the do’s and don’ts as far as deductions and write-offs. Hopefully my Freelancer’s Guide to Important Tax Deductions will help a lot of the people who will get the chance to see it now that it was included in the Don’t Mess With Taxes blog carnival.

For people who want to learn more about taxes, this is a great place to start. There are tons of great tax articles included in the tax carnival including tips on giving to charity, doing taxes on time, filing as a medical student, learning from the past, using your refund and hiring a tax preparer. There was also some really smart information about the hidden costs of paying taxes with a credit card and use e-file. Plus there are tons of links there to information on the economic stimulus bill.

Taxes are definitely something that a SmartChick (or SmartGuy) wants to be concerned about learning so checking out the blog carnival comes highly recommended by me!
