I put flowers all over my house but the most common place that you’ll find them is in my kitchen. I stick them in old wine bottles and put them on the windowsill so I can see them while cooking or washing dishes. I love these big orange sunflowers!

There is a Flower Mart in San Francisco. It’s a series of stores inside of warehouses where you can go to buy flowers as a wholesaler. You can also go if you’re not a wholesaler and I had a nice time wandering around there recently to soak in the scent and sight of different flowers.

i was taking pictures of a sunflower that I’d placed in a wine glass on my window will. Some of the pictures came out great but the camera was acting funny. It kept taking a second photo immediately after the photo that I intended to take. The result was a couple of really cool photos that I never would’ve been able to take intentionally!

You already saw a picture of my Gibson Girl vase with a flower in it (here). Expect to see those on a regular basis. I love that vase. I love flowers. And I’m trying to play around with different angles and colors to get better and better at taking photos of this particular object.

I take a lot of photos of flowers. That’s because I really enjoy having cut flowers in my home and I usually take pictures when I get new ones for the house. Most of the flowers that I put up around the house are put into old wine bottles for display. However, there’s always one flower that goes into the bathroom. Here’s an example:

Last summer I was at an antique store when I came across a bunch of these Gibson girl vases. This one was inexpensive and I adored it so I bought it for my bathroom. I love to put a flower in the girl’s hair.

One of the things that I really think is important in life is to find those little things that make your every day a bit more special and to indulge in them. One of those little things for me is having fresh flowers in my home. Yes, there are good reasons to get house plants instead. Yes fresh flowers could be seen as a waste of money. However, I enjoy the whole experience of going out to find the right flowers for the week, arranging them in empty wine bottles and setting them up throughout my house. I also enjoy seeing and smelling them whenever I enter certain rooms. To me, this experience is worth the cost.

Of course, not everyone wants fresh flowers in their home. Some people would rather decorate with flowers in other ways through putting up floral wall paper or having flowery furniture. And for other people, flowers just don’t do anything at all. I’m not saying that having flowers in your home is the way to enjoy life. What I’m saying is that you should ask yourself what your equivalent is of the every day joy that flowers are for me and you should aim to bring that into your life on a regular basis. In the end, it is these little things that brighten our days that add up to a life worth living.
