Earlier this week I did a lengthy article providing my tips for staying healthy during cold season. I believe that it’s really important to take care of ourselves properly when we are well so that our immune systems stay strong and we can avoid colds. After all, it’s almost always better to prevent a problem than to have to treat it and that seems to be even truer of health problems than other problems in life.

This is an important enough issue to me that I spent some time over at Yahoo Answers this week providing additional information to people about how to keep your immune system strong. One of those answers was chosen as the best answer to the immune system question that someone had asked. There were several other answers there as well and they were good too so check it out!

You know what I think is probably the smartest thing that I have learned as I’ve gotten older? I’ve learned how to take care of myself. As time goes on, I get better and better at making sure that I’m taking care of my physical and emotional needs. This allows me to live a healthier life on so many levels and is one of the things that I appreciate most about getting older.

One of the things I’ve learned the hard way is that you have to make the time to take care of your physical needs if you want to stay healthy. Every single time that I start to overwork, don’t sleep enough, fail to eat right and stop getting enough exercise, I rapidly find myself facing a cold or flu that knocks me out and puts me in bed. If you don’t take care of your body, your body will stop working so that you’ll be forced to take care of it.

What I’ve discovered is that there are a lot of really simple things that should be done for boosting your immune system and staying healthy. It’s common sense stuff really. You need to eat healthy and drink a lot of water, avoid sugars and alcohol and make sure that you’re resting when you need to rest. Doing that for yourself is simply the smart thing to do!
