I have a lot of novelty yarn that I want to use but don’t really enjoy using in my crochet work. I thought I’d play around with weaving it. I started with this project, where I took an openwork piece of burlap mesh ribbon and wove the yarn through the holes. It’s pretty straightforward but it was a good starter project and it gave me ideas for weaving ribbon through my crochet work in the future.
I’m a crocheter, not a knitter, but I do notice knitting when it’s in someone else’s home or when someone is doing it in public. And of course I always spot a yarn stash when I walk into a space. Here’s some yarn and knitting I’ve seen lately:
Recently I went through some old vintage magazines from the 1960s and 1970s (mostly, but not entirely, issues of McCall’s Needlework and Crafts) and there was something I fell in love with about the images of yarn that were in those magazines. Most came from ads for yarn.
I’d like to introduce you today to Lo-Lo by Bar Maid, a sponsor of both this blog and my other blog, Crochet Concupiscence. And I’m also happy to say that as part of the sponsorship we’re running a giveaway to give one lucky winner a free large Twisted Light Candle, which is my favorite product from this great company.

About the Yarn Lover’s Candle
“Shed some good light on your surroundings! Made from 100% pure beeswax, Twisted Lights look exactly like a ball of yarn. Each one dyed by hand, like yarn, no two alike. The smaller Twisted Light burns for approximately 20 hours, the Large over 50 hours. Like all of our products, Twisted Lights are individually made by hand. They come packaged in a kraft box.”

That photo is of the top of my new drop spindle, a tool used to spin roving into yarn. I don’t know how to do that yet but I’m starting to learn.
I’ve got a post up today on my crochet blog, Crochet Concupiscence, telling all about how I came to receive this drop spindle. It shows photos of spindles in the making and also highlights various crochet-related things I saw on my trip. Check it out!
The spindle was made by Ken Ledbetter of KCL Woods.
